Making your materials HOTTER!

In most coursebooks and published materials there is a major imbalance between LOTs and HOTs. You will find that the majority of the language practice consists of lower order thinking exercises which check the learner’s comprehension and understanding of English. Less attention is paid higher order thinking tasks which encourage critical thinking and creativity. In this session we’ll consider how teachers and materials writers can redress this imbalance and I’ll suggest some practical writing techniques to add more balance between your LOTs and your HOTs.
